Finance Coordinator
MSF finance coordinators make sure that every department has what it needs to do the best job possible, no matter what happens.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Financial Coordinator with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), you will be responsible for the overall financial management of all MSF projects in the country where you are posted. Your responsibilities will include budget management and financing, project planning support, financial and payroll administration, budgetary control, and cash-flow management. You will also help develop and implement administrative and financial procedures to support the mission.
You will work in close collaboration with the finance team at MSF headquarters as well as with the project teams in the country of assignment. Your tasks will include preparing financial proposals and reports for institutional donors and MSF headquarters, ensuring compliance with both internal policies and local legal requirements. You will supervise locally and internationally recruited administrative staff and ensure they receive the guidance and tools needed to carry out their work effectively.
As a member of the country management team, you will represent MSF in financial and administrative matters and collaborate with national authorities and other non-governmental organizations on relevant issues. While your base will be in the capital city, you will conduct regular visits to project locations to monitor financial practices, support field teams, and ensure consistency and transparency across all sites.
From ensuring that funds are available to support a rapid scale-up of emergency operations—so that MSF can respond immediately to events such as natural disasters—to guaranteeing that financial resources are managed carefully, responsibly, and in accordance with local legislation, MSF Financial Coordinators play a key role in enabling every department to operate effectively, no matter the circumstances.
REQUIREMENTS
Education and experience in financial administration (accounting and reporting) and financial management (planning and budget control)
Minimum two years relevant experience in a similar role
Familiarity with human resources management
Proven ability to work as part of a senior management team, including project planning responsibilities
Experience in managing staff in a multicultural team (supervision / training)
Fluency in English and French (Intermediate+, minimum level B2 in both). Refer to this evaluation grid . Other languages such as Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese are valued, but not required.
Relevant travel or work experience in contexts similar to where MSF works (armed conflicts, natural disasters, public health emergencies or situations of healthcare exclusion)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and various accounting software
Available to work 9 to 12 months

International mobile staff receive an indemnity monthly gross salary of approximately $3000 to a Canadian bank account. MSF covers accommodation and transport to and from their project.

Reporting misconduct: grievance and whistleblowing mechanisms
MSF has procedures in place to encourage prevention, early detection, and reporting of misbehaviour, harassment, abuse, or exploitation.
- Staff are encouraged to report inappropriate behaviour either through their management line or via independent reporting channels outside the hierarchy, using designated and confidential email addresses.
- Victims or witnesses in the communities where MSF works are also encouraged to report misconduct, allowing allegations to be properly addressed.
- Awareness activities, including briefings, field visits, trainings, and staff manuals, ensure that information about reporting mechanisms is widely accessible.

Strengthening safeguarding across MSF
